Arnold is CEO of Sentinel Waste International Ltd. Arnold has in excess of 45 years in engineering and development expertise, primarily in executive roles. His time in the engineering industry has been spent mainly in the mechanical and electrical engineering sectors. Arnold started his engineering career in the United Kingdom, prior to emigrating to Canada, where he became an Associate Partner in a large Toronto based Consulting Engineering Company, and eventually had responsibility for the Production department, as well as direct responsibility for operations in the UK based sector, responsible for Mechanical/Electrical design and architectural coordination. He started his own Engineering Company in 1984, with two other partners. In 1993, he made a strategic move to development in the last 18 years. Within that time he acquired a major shareholding in Sentinel and was instrumental in pursuing various financial sector developers to participate in the first Sentinel Pellet Plant, in the Toronto area (the Dongara facility). He has been instrumental in the refining and development of the Sentinel technology and has been directly involved in all efforts to further the technology’s use worldwide. Sentinel is currently pursuing several international projects in locations in the USA, Europe, Asia and Middle East.
Arnold led the design and construction efforts during the development of the Dongara facility in the City of Vaughan, was responsible for all discussions with the authorities, including finalization of the CofA with the Ministry of Environment. He was responsible for assigning all contracts to Consultants and Contractors for the project, as well as finalizing contracts for all process equipment. He was on-site during all construction projects, as well as directly responsible for the negotiation of all process equipment, and construction contracts.
David Bellamy is the President and Executive Partner for the MCW Group of Companies, which include MCW Consultants Ltd, MCW Custom Energy Solutions Ltd., and MCW International Inc. and works out of MCW’s Toronto office. MCW has in excess of 450 employees, with offices across Canada, with an office in the USA and London, England. David has over thirty (30) years of experience in mechanical, electrical, process and energy management design. David worked closely with Arnold in setting up Sentinel, and worked very closely with the investors for Dongara. He was intimately involved with all aspects of the development and design engineering related to the Sentinel Waste reference plant (the Dongara Pellet Plant). David is also an Executive Partner in Sentinel, and is closely linked to all worldwide development for the future of Sentinel.
Karim Kassam is the Managing Director International Business to promote SENTINEL’s interest globally. Karim Kassam brings over twenty years of worldwide experience in the business development arena from his previous role as Prescient’s President and CEO. Karim had developed a clear and differentiated strategy for Prescient that focused on client centric solutions based on understanding the client’s future needs and developing technology solutions years before their time for implementation now. Under Karim’s guidance, technology is transformed into business enabling solutions that support the client’s needs to enhance their bottom line performance.
Karim went on to work as a consultant with various members of the Qatar Royal Family as a Client Representative managing their large scale projects and advising them on strategies for expansion. Working in different spaces and an excellent understanding on finance, construction, technology, processes and engineering, Karim brings diversity to Sentinel and is instrumental to our overall strategy in global expansion.
Dr. Arun J. Basu operates as the Director Business Development–India to promote SENTINEL’s interest in the region. He has over thirty years of experience in Civil, Structural, and Mining Engineering and runs Strategic Mine Planning Services Inc. (STRATMIN) as the President focusing on Mining and Renewable Energy. He also serves P&E Mining Consulting Inc. as Director, Technical Services and involved in the area of strategic planning related to Preliminary Economic Assessments and Feasibility Studies of mining and mineral projects. Prior to assuming current roles he served in a number of senior management positions In Ontario Canada and served as Adjunct Professor at University of Toronto, Mineral Engineering Program.
He earned his Ph.D. in Mining Engineering (1992) from University of Kentucky, Lexington, USA, and received M.S. in Civil Engineering (1984) from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. He spent 10 years as an academic and served as Rio Tinto Lecturer in Mining engineering (1999-2004) at Royal School of Mines (RSM), Imperial College London (UK) and as Senior Lecturer in Mining Engineering (1994-1999) at Western Australian School of Mines (WASM), Curtin University of Technology, Kalgoorlie, WA, (Australia).
Richard is Sentinel’s International President, with offices located in Scotland, United Kingdom. Richard was National Sales Manager for the UK’s largest waste management company for more than 10 years, Biffa Waste Services Plc, and is a passionate advocate for recycling and the environment – having pioneered national recycling collection infrastructure for a range of recyclable materials. Richard has been instrumental in the pursuit of waste projects in locations such as Pakistan, Spain and UAE, and still remains closely involved in the proposal stages of these projects. These projects have incorporated a combination of waste to pellet/pellet to power with the power produced intended as the primary energy source for a large desalination facility, in Pakistan. Richard previously ran an international trading company established to solve a range of issues in the international recycling markets.
Chris Zhang is an Ontario Professional Engineer with in excess of thirty (30) years of experience in teaching, researching, engineering, operation and management, as well as formulation and processing of MSW, ICI, Commercial Waste, Plastics Engineering and R&D. He has hands-on experiment, formulations, machine operation, processing control, mechanical design, QC/QA, prevent maintenance, project management, operation, and engineering management. Chris was involved in waste palletization, for use in making roof shingles, outdoor furniture, and other products at one of Toronto’s largest waste plastic recycling to production companies in Ontario. He joined the Sentinel/Dongara team in 2007.
His strength lies in combining the basic concepts of science and engineering with experience and creativity, to effectively improve product quality and increase productivity. He has good interpersonal and communication skills, combined with being a team player, enabling close working relationships with people from all levels of operations, from product development to production, as well as providing support and leadership. Chris’ primary responsibilities engage the overall chemistry and calorific value of pellets produced, while maintaining fuel standards set by a specific customer.
Louis started a recycling business long before the concept of “green” came about. He and his partner worked 18 hour days, seven days a week to establish the largest private waste pick up and transfer business in Southern Ontario, with direct contracts with Municipalities to replace Municipal pick-up, delivering quality service at a lesser cost to the Municipality.
Located in the port of Toronto, Turtle Island Recycling operated two 6,000 M2 facilities complete with seven large industrial balers, a series of automated sorting stations and three industrial shredders. The company’s fleet of 61 refuse and recycling vehicles operated 24 hours, 7 days a week. Established in 1990, Turtle Island Recycling was a Canadian owned company, employing over 250 people and serviced over 1,800 industrial and commercial customers and over 150,000 residential customers.
Turtle Island was a true multi-material recovery company. Waste streams of paper, glass, metal and plastic as well as non-traditional materials are accepted regularly. Once received at the facility, the different items were logged, weighed and diverted to the appropriate area of the plant for processing.
Louis and his partner sold the company in 2013, with a view to look beyond the haven of Toronto. Thus far Louis has become involved in several design and development projects regarding the development of waste Transfer Stations and Trucking within the Caribbean Islands.
Louis works within our group to establish the correct approach to waste pick-up and delivery, via transfer stations, to the Pellet/Power Plant facilities.
Caron is a partner in Sentinel, with primary focus on equipment design progression, and the company’s approach to training of operating personnel. She is responsible for decision-making in establishment and operation of equipment processes, is a skilled facilitator and negotiator in many different contexts with a variety of interest groups. Has a clear understanding of the complexity of varied stakeholders and the need to achieve consensus among diverse interests. Caron was involved in the original plant design, and was on-site throughout the construction of the Dongara facility in Vaughan. She has been the main contact with all equipment vendors through the first 6 years of the facility, responsible for all design adjustments during that time. She has also been deeply involved in the next generation of design for future plants, including directing equipment vendors regarding changes desired by Sentinel to standard equipment models.
Caron remained involved on the operations floor during the first six years of plant operation assisting in the writing of Operations Procedures, as well as personnel training.
Mr. Anand Mantri is an astute professional, having over 18 years of rich experience in Finance. He has worked in several multinational organizations across Construction Equipment Company, Non-Banking Finance Company, IT and IT enabled services. He has successfully led the Treasury, Risk & Compliance, Business Finance, Controllership and Accounting functions. Anand is a qualified Chartered Account & Cost Accountant, based in Bangalore India.
Mr. Mantri will primarily assist SENTINEL in business development activities in India and Liaison with its local partners in India.
